Assalamualaikum.
Dah 11 hb baru nak tulis first post for this year. Busy sangat.
Nuha dah pun start sekolah. Its been 5 days and so far so good. She seems to love going to school, alhamdulillah. First day hantar sekolah je kami tunggu dalam sejam dua, lepas tu x tunggu dah. Nampak dia ok je so tak la risau.
Esok abang dan Faiz pulak start sekolah. X tau la macam mana kelam kabut ke tak nak hantar dan ambil 3 orang anak sekolah ni.
Ok, back to the topic. This month je dah dua kali masak resepi ni. Sedap, lagi lagi kalau makan dengan nasi panas panas.
Ketam
Garam & serbuk kunyit
minyak untuk menggoreng
Bawang besar, bawang putih dan halia - dikisar
Cili boh - 3 sudu besar
1 sudu besar serbuk kari
3 - 4 tangkai daun kari
Sos cili - 3 sudu besar
Kicap - 2 sudu besar
Sedikit gula & air

More crocheted roses
Jadinya bunga-bunga tu tak sama, every time mengait tak sabar nak tunggu habis nak tengok end result dia.
Bunga-bunga ni kait pakai benang cashmere. Yang warna pink biru tu dah tak available sebab Nuha nak untuk jadikan headband dia. Sebelum ni ingatkan Nuha tak suka headband sebab dia memang just pakai hairclip, even nak ikat rambut dia pun dia tak bagi. Since semalam dia nak pula pakai headband, so layankan saja.

Ni headband yang buat semalam. Suka je dia pakai headband. Bangun pagi tadi terus je dia cari headband ni minta pakaikan.

Kek coklat untuk birthday Amirul
Amirul turned 9 recently, Alhamdulillah :)
Mama loves you always.
1 1/4 cawan tepung
1 cawan gula
1/3 cawan serbuk koko
1 sudu kecil baking soda
1/2 sudu kecil garam
1 cawan air suam
1 sudu kecil esen vanilla
1/3 cawan minyak sayuran
1 sudu kecil cuka epal

Birthday cakes
Shas buat kek strawberi (favourite birthday boy) dan dilapis chocolate ganache untuk birthday Faiz tahun ni. Tak plan pon nak buat bentuk lego, idea tu datang the night before making the cake sebab Faiz sangat suka main Lego.
I don't have any food color available at home at the moment.
Another 'cake' to celebrate Faiz's birthday. Buat pavlova.
And for Iman's birthday, I made chocolate cake with chocolate toppings.
Simple je birthday cake Iman, yang penting sedap :) Kids loved this chocolate cake, moist je.. resepi pon sangat simple.
Happy birthday to both of you.. Love you all so much!!

Chocolate pavlova recipe
I've made pavlova before, and I noticed that the kids enjoyed chocolate pavlova even more. I personally love the chocolate pavlova better than the ordinary pavlova. Seriously, it tasted wonderful.
The recipe that I used is adapted from Nigella Lawson's website. I've made some changes to the recipe, you can view the original recipe here.
Recipe for chocolate pavlova:
3 egg whites
150 grams caster sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa powder, sifted
1/2 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
30 grams dark chocolate, roughly chopped
Preheat the oven to 180 degree Celsius. Line a baking sheet with a parchment paper. Draw a 6-inch diameter circle on the paper and flip the parchment paper over.
Beat in the egg whites until satiny peaks form, then beat in the sugar, a little at a time until the meringue is stiff and shiny. Then, gently fold in the cocoa powder, vinegar and dark chocolate. Mound the meringue onto the parchment paper, within the circle drawn, smoothing the sides and the top with a spatula.
Place the baking sheet in the oven, and immediately turn the temperature down to 140 degree Celcius. Cook for about 1 hour, until the edges/sides look crisp. Turn off the oven and open the oven door slightly to let the meringue cool. Don't be demotivated if the meringue crack when baking, as this is pretty normal and it won't affect the taste. Besides, you're gonna cover the top with cream and fresh fruits.
As for the topping, you will need:
250 ml of cream (I used UHT whipping cream)
1 tablespoon of icing sugar
2 teaspoons of vanilla essence
Fresh fruits (I used strawberry and green grapes)
Grated dark chocolate to sprinkle on top (I used Belgian dark chocolate)
When you are ready to serve, whisk the cream till thick and add in the icing sugar and vanilla essence. Pile the cream on top of the meringue. Scatter over the fresh fruits and sprinkle over the grated chocolate.

Faiz's 6th birthday & recipe for the simplest moist chocolate cupcakes
Alhamdulillah, Faiz is now 6 years old. I made him chocolate cupcakes with buttercream icing to bring to school, chocolate pavlova for us to celebrate at home, and my husband took us out to Bangsar Village for dinner and for Faiz to choose his own birthday present at Toys r Us.
I had asked him last week, whilst we were spending our evening at the kids playground, on what type of cake that he wants for his birthday. He told me that he wanted sonic the hedgehog cake. I thought of drawing the character using chocolate to place on top of the cupcakes but I didn't manage to do so. I had instead printed pictures of sonic to paste at the party favors. Come to think of it, I should had just paste it on a stick or something and place it on top of the cupcakes.. X ingat pulak nak buat camtu, bila dah petang baru teringat.
Anyway, I found a new chocolate cupcake recipe that I love, and I had used this recipe to make the cupcakes for him to bring to school. Not only that the recipe is very easy to follow, it yields moist and delicious chocolate cupcakes, definitely a keeper. Chocolate cake recipe adapted from The Farm Chicks.
Moist chocolate cupcake recipe:
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar (not packed)
1 3/4 cup cake flour
3/4 cup cocoa powder
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
2 medium eggs
1 cup milk
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 tsp vanilla essence
1 cup boiling water
Preheat the oven to 175 degree Celsius. In a mixing bowl, mix together the sugar, brown sugar, cake flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Add in the eggs, milk, vegetable oil and vanilla essence and beat using a mixer till well combined. Add in the boiling water and mix until just blended. Pour into cupcake paper/cup (I used medium sized cupcake cups) and bake for about 16 minutes (or until cook, depending on the size of the cupcake paper/cup used).
As for the decorations, I had adapted the buttercream icing recipe from Hasue, with some modification to the recipe.
Vanilla buttercream icing recipe:
50 grams butter
450 grams krimwell
300 grams icing sugar (sifted)
1 tablespoon vanilla essence
Beat in the butter and krimwell for a few minutes, then add in the icing sugar and continue mixing. Add in the vanilla essence and beat until well incorporated.

Fancy ice cream cookies
Me and the kids spent our Wednesday evening making these cookies. The kids really enjoyed themselves, as I let them decorate the cookies to their liking using sugar stars and sugar balls. I actually wanted to make chocolate chip cookies as per the one I recently made since the earlier batch lasted for less than 2 days, but I guess that can wait since the kids seem overly excited when I told them that we're gonna be making cookies in the shape of an ice cream.
They loved the cookies very much, and the cookies were gone in less than a day!
Here's the recipe that I used to make them, I've made slight changes to the amount of ingredients used as the dough feels too soft to roll-out. Original recipe can be found here.
Ingredients:
130 grams butter
60 grams icing sugar
160 grams all purpose flour
30 grams corn flour
20 grams potato flour/starch
20 grams custard flour
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
20 grams ground almond
Dark compound chocolate - melted, and sugar stars/balls/crystals etc for decoration
- In a mixer, beat the butter and icing sugar until fluffy.
- Add in the rest of the ingredients (flour, baking powder and ground almond) a little at a time on low speed until well incorporated.
- Using a rolling pin, roll-out the dough. Then, cut out the cookies using cookie cutter.
- Preheat the oven to 160 degree celcius and bake the cookies for 20 minutes.
- Decorate as desired using the melted chocolate and the sugar stars/balls/crystals etc.

Resepi kek kukus coklat lembab
Hari ni anak-anak semua tak sekolah, Amirul demam sejak hari Jumaat, Faiz pula memang liat sikit nak pergi sekolah kalau abang dia tak sekolah...
50 gram serbuk koko
200 gram susu cair
110 gram susu pekat
90 gram minyak sayuran
2 biji telur
110 gram gula kastor
1/2 sudu teh esen vanilla
75 gram tepung kek
1/2 sudu teh baking powder
1/2 sudu teh baking soda
Shas kukus selama 45 minit.
Resepi coklat ganache mudah:
160 gram susu pekat
Nuha orang yang paling excited sekali tengok mama dia buat kek, especially since dia memang sangat suka makan kek.

Chocolate chips cookie recipe
So I kept the promise I made to my kids and we spent our Saturday evening making cookies. Amirul and Faiz both enjoyed helping me making the drop cookies.
I used a different chocolate chips cookie recipe this time around, which I happened to come across the other day whilst surfing the net.
I had however changed the temperature used for baking as there was comment made by a reader asking on why the bottom of her cookies got burnt quite fast. I had also substituted the almond nibs with ground almonds. Original recipe for the cookie can be found here.
Here's the recipe that I used:
Ingredients:
250 grams butter
120 grams sugar
100 grams brown sugar
2 eggs, lightly bitten
320 grams flour
80 grams corn flour
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
2 tablespoons cocoa powder
100 grams ground almonds
250 grams chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 160 degree celcius.
Beat the butter, sugar and brown sugar until creamy.
Add in the beaten eggs and beat well.
Mix together the flour, corn flour, baking soda and cocoa powder.
Finally, add in the ground almonds and chocolate chips.
Drop the cookie dough a teaspoon at a time onto a baking sheet.
Bake for about 24 minutes.
This recipe yields crunchy chocolate chips cookie like the one bought from famous amos, not the soft chewy type like the one from subway. My kids loved the cookies made, and we liked the cookies too. My 2 years old daughter said "mmmm, yummy cookie" a few times when eating the cookies.
This recipe is a sure keeper!

Selamat hari raya aidilfitri
I've been super busy for the past one week, and don't even have the time to update my blog. I've been busy fulfilling the cookie orders, sewing the boys' raya clothes, travelling to Kedah 2 days before raya and back to Kuala Lumpur the following day, etc. Nasib baik sempat siapkan baju untuk my two little boys, just in time for raya.
Anyway, I would like to wish all Muslim, especially my dear family, friends and customers Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Amirul's birthday celebrations
I took half day leave on Amirul's birthday, rushed back from office and was on time to pick him up from school. His face expression when he saw me outside his school compound, was priceless. We then went to pick up both Faiz and Nuha from the babysitter's place and headed home.
Amirul wanted a chocolate cake for his birthday. After lunch, we made chocolate moist birthday cake together. When my husband was back from office that evening, we celebrated Amirul's birthday.
On Sunday, I made another chocolate cake for Amirul's birthday party. This time around, I made my chocolate signature cake with oreos cream filling and chocolate ganache as frosting, on Amirul's request. Amirul wanted me to write "Happy Birthday" on the cake, so I whipped a simple buttercream for decorations. He loved it, although the decorations doesn't turned up well.
Happy birthday Amirul sayang. We all love you very very much!!
* Amirul wanted a pet fish for his birthday present. Nanti kita beli ye sayang.

Moist chocolate cake
It has been 2 weeks since I last baked. We spent the first 5 days of the recent school holidays by the beach in Kuala Terengganu and another 4 days in Kota Bharu.
We reached home at about 2 am last week's Monday and I had to work from Monday onwards. I had to also spent a few evenings after work doing laundry. I had only managed to complete doing so on Thursday.
So, when my brother called to inform that my mum and all my siblings plus their family will be coming over to our house last Sunday, I got all excited and decided to bake a moist chocolate cake for dessert. Hubby had requested that I cooked 'nasi lemak', so I cooked nasi lemak with fried chicken and prawn sambal as main course.
Since my nephews, Ammar and Ahmad had recently celebrated their birthdays and my son Amirul will be celebrating his birthday soon, we lighted up candles and sang birthday songs for them all.
Happy birthdays dear Ammar, Ahmad and Amirul. Love all of you so much!!
Although it was a simple chocolate cake without any decoration, everyone loves it especially my nephew, Adib who had 3 servings of the cake.

Flower hair clips
I love to make things, and I also enjoy seeing my family wearing/using things that I've made. I hope that they enjoy wearing/using them too.
Among the things that I enjoy making are hair clips. I've made quite a number - plain simple ones as well as the one with flower on top.
Here are a couple of new flower hair clips that I recently made:

Sewing pattern review - double-sided sun hat
I made double-sided sun hat for my daughter. Pattern from the below book - making children's clothes written by Emma Hardy. Bought the book from Kinokuniya KLCC a few months back.
I find the pattern and sewing instructions to be easy to follow. The pattern pieces are printed double sided, as such, will need to first trace the pattern pieces needed before cutting the fabrics.
Made the outer part using a black flowery fabric, and the inner part using a pink fabric. I personally love the end result. I also enjoy seeing her wearing the sun hat.

Review - kelas kek hantaran at My Sugar Class
I attended
another class last weekend and this time it was a cake decorating class. I love
love love this class and am happy to report that I can now make beautiful
buttercream roses :-)
![]() |
with my lovely classmates |
Although this was the second class that I've
attended this year, this was in fact the first class that I've registered. I've
waited for more than one month to attend this class.
The class was
fully hands-on. Each students get to decorate their own cake.
At the
beginning of the class, we each received a 7" sponge cake to decorate. We
then started to ice the cake, then we proceeded to make lovely
roses.
I've always admired Rani's roses as they looked pretty amazing,
can't believe my luck to be able to learn it from her firsthand.
I
also make new friends along the way. I had lovely time getting to know my desk
partner, Roza.
Here are some of the pictures taken:

Will need to practice more after this (that reminds me of the class that I've attended last month, belum sempat nak praktis lagi)..
*Note: Although the roses looks lovely, I don't actually like the buttercream used for the topping and also the roses. Will have to look for a different recipe maybe to make these lovely roses.
