Key holder

Made this key holder this morning.

Love the end result walaupun rasa macam jahitan agak comot kat bahagian bias tape.

Own pattern, with zippered compartment for storing coins, a pocket (behind the zippered compartment) to place some cards and magnetic snap for closure.

Lagi sambungan projek menjahit baju raya anak-anak

Ok, dah siap all 4. Alhamdulillah. Klik sini untuk view the earlier posts on baju raya Amirul, Faiz dan Iman.

Buat kaftan senang je.. just potong kain tu bentuk macam kat atas, then tebuk lubang leher sama cara macam buat baju kurung. Shas letak renda pada bahagian depan baju, and I kind of like the effect of having the lace there.

Hari ni kena gi shopping barang dapur sebab my mum and siblings will be coming over for iftar tomorrow. Lepas tu nak clean the house and maybe start making some raya cookies ataupun make some stuff for my online shop.

Sambungan projek menjahit baju raya anak-anak

3 dah siap, satu je lagi yang belum.

Untuk baju Iman, buat ala-ala baju melayu jugak cuma takde pesak dan berlengan pendek, takut dia panas kalau buat lengan panjang. Seluar buat yang sama macam Amirul dan Faiz, made using lycra denim material.

Baju Nuha je yang belum siap ni..Insya Allah sempat. Hari ni kena siapkan sebab lepas tu nak start buat biskut raya pulak.

Projek menjahit baju raya anak-anak

Ok 2 dah siap, lagi 2 belum start..

Selalunya baju raya Shas yang last sekali buat, memang last minute baru nak siap.. tapi tahun ni terbalik pulak. Baju Shas awal ramadhan hari tu dah siap dah. Sebabnya, kain untuk buat baju tu ambil yang dari stok sedia ada (kain baju Shas tahun ni yg my sister belikan a couple of years ago). Nasib ok.

As for the kids, kain kena beli, tapi malas nak gi kedai kain. Dari bulan Jun lagi nak beli tapi tak terbeli. Last-last beli je online, tapi sebab online tak banyak design yang sesuai for boys, beli la kain cotton polkadot color khakis. Dapat pun dah agak lambat, so lambat la mula menjahitnya.

Baju raya Amirul dan Faiz tahun ni, same design for both kids

Ni tahun kedua buat macam ni and the kids memang suka sebab seluar jenis lycra denim ni selesa. Even yang tahun lepas punya pun diorang still pakai lagi, cuma agak senteng sikit sebab all of them semakin meninggi.

Untuk baju raya Nuha dan Iman, belum fikir lagi nak buat baju kurung/melayu tradisional ataupun nak buat lain. Nanti Iman nap petang nanti baru nak gunting kain. So still ada masa sampai petang nanti untuk decide design baju diorang berdua.

Sewing projects - monster pencil cases and a wristlet

Made the below pencil cases for Amirul and Faiz to use for school. The front was made using felt and the back as well as the lining were made using cotton fabric.

I also made a wristlet using the pattern available from the book "Bags - the modern classic".

Tutorial - turn a t-shirt into a bubble dress

I have this long t-shirt that I bought for my daughter Nuha, but she don't really like wearing it. She is now 2+ and is already kind of choosy about her clothes. But she loves dresses, so I guess it's time to change it into a dress and see whether she'll wear it.

Because the t-shirt is kind of long, I cut the t-shirt at waist length and use the extras as the inner part of the bubble skirt. If you are using a normal t-shirt, then you can always substitute this with an inner fabric.

I then measured the width of the t-shirt, and it is about 10 inches (per side), 20 inches (all around). I times this measurement by 2.5, as such, the width of the fabric needed will be 50 inches wide.

As for the height, I measured the heights that I wanted for the dress (from waist down) and added in a few extra inches to bubble in the skirt. In my case, the height that i wanted is 9.5 inches, and I added in another 3.5 inches to bubble in (all in all 13 inches long).

I then cut my fabric - 50 x 13 inches and iron. Fold the fabric into two (at its long side, right side together) and sew the shorter side together (i.e. the length of the skirt). If you have a serger, serge the top part of the fabric. I don't have a serger, as such, I double fold the edge of the upper part of fabric to avoid the fabric from fraying. Don't bother hemming the lower part of the fabric as it will be sewed onto the inner fabric and turned right side out.

Now, gather the bottom part of the fabric to the inner fabric, right sides together and sew. Turn the fabric right side out. Then, gather the upper part of the fabric to the inner fabric, wrong sides together and sew, this will be the upper part of the dress skirt.

This is how the bubble skirt should look like on the inside
The key to making the skirt 'bubble' is that the width of the inner fabric should be lesser that the
width of the outer fabric.

To finish, attached the upper part of the dress skirt to the t-shirt, right sides together and sew. You can top-stitch for a cleaner look.

I'm glad that Nuha loves her new bubble dress.

Tutorial - cara menjahit coaster

Tutorial menjahit coaster, langkah demi langkah:

Mini pleated wristlet

My mum had actually requested me to make her a small wristlet a while back, for her to place her handphones. However, since I've not been sewing, I had put it in my to-do list. Since sekarang saya dah start menjahit balik, maka wajiblah untuk saya selesaikan apa-apa yang ada dalam to-do list saya tu.

I spent my Monday evening sewing her wristlet. Since I've never done the same wristlet pattern before, it took me quite a while to figure out how to cut the fabric and how to do it. Alhamdulillah, I managed to put things together and I really love the result.
I used a soft japanese cotton for the exterior, and a normal plain cotton for the interior.
Here's the front view of the writlet:
And here's the back/interior view of the wristlet:
I went to my mum's place on that Monday evening itself to hand her the wristlet, and I'm glad my mum suka wristlet tu.

Handmade hobo bag

I've not done any baking recently, except for the occasional breads and buns for our own consumption, tu pon sebab saya gatal-gatal request bread maker from my dear hubby and he bought me a kenwood breadmaker as per my request. Thank you so much sayang for the breadmaker.

Apart from that, I've also not done any sewing for almost 3 months.. Kesian kat my sewing machine, lama betul terbiar. Baru-baru ni je rasa macam ada mood nak start menjahit balik, lagipun it's about time anyway sebab banyak juga baju/seluar yang dah terkoyak etc. So, aktiviti menjahit dimulakan dengan me-repair baju & seluar yang dah terkoyak.

I've then decided to make myself a new bag, nak bagi datang mood menjahit :)

So, last Saturday was spent sewing my new hobo bag. I used cotton for the exterior and lining, and a thick interfacing as stabilizer. I used a magnetic snap button for the opening of the bag and even included a small pocket inside the bag for small items. I absolutely love the result!!

Suka sangat sebab my current bag is kind of small, tak muat nak letak banyak barang. With this bag, siap ada enough space untuk letak baby wipes and diaper as well as a big container of raisins for Nuha.

Newborn handmade gifts

I love making long pants for my children as they love wearing them. I will normally make long pants from either cotton or stretchy fabric. I especially love making pants from stretchy fabric as they are very comfortable to wear. When I was still working, I will spent my lunch hours wondering from one fabric shop to another looking for a good bargain and will usually end up with a meter or two of fabrics.

Whilst wondering around the fabric shops, I discovered stretchy denim. I bought a meter and started making long pants for my kids. They all loved it, and I can tell that the pants are very comfortable to wear. I then went back and bought a few more meters of the same kind. I still have quite a lot of them in my cabinet, even after making a number of pants for my kids.

My kids have always chooses the pants that I've made over jeans when we go out. I bet they loves them too.

Coming back to my post title, last Friday, I went to visit my former babysitter's newborn grandchild with my kids. As a gift, I made her a long pants out of a stretchy denim fabric. I've made a few of the same pants to be given to some friends as a gift for their newborn and from the feedback that I've received, they all loves it because of the stretchy material that I used.

I also made her a flower baby headband, using felt flower and stretchy laces. Hope that they'll like the gifts.

Selamat hari raya aidilfitri

I've been super busy for the past one week, and don't even have the time to update my blog. I've been busy fulfilling the cookie orders, sewing the boys' raya clothes, travelling to Kedah 2 days before raya and back to Kuala Lumpur the following day, etc. Nasib baik sempat siapkan baju untuk my two little boys, just in time for raya.

Anyway, I would like to wish all Muslim, especially my dear family, friends and customers Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Sewing project

A dear friend of mine asked if I can make her a top/dress similar to the one she has. She said that it is very comfortable to wear and she would like to have another one of the same pattern.

Although I don't really like to work with soft fabric and prefer cotton over any other type of fabric, I took up her challenge to remake the top/dress.

Alhamdulillah, I am able to make it. Gonna hand it to her tomorrow.

Especially made for mama

My mum had requested me to make her a clutch to store her wallet and handphone. She choose blue fabrics for the clutch and its lining.

It took me a while to find free time to start sewing the clutch, but once I started sewing, I was able to finish it in just a short while. I made the clutch the same size as my own clutch.

Hope you like it mom!

Sewing pattern review - double-sided sun hat

I made double-sided sun hat for my daughter. Pattern from the below book - making children's clothes written by Emma Hardy. Bought the book from Kinokuniya KLCC a few months back.

I find the pattern and sewing instructions to be easy to follow. The pattern pieces are printed double sided, as such, will need to first trace the pattern pieces needed before cutting the fabrics.

Made the outer part using a black flowery fabric, and the inner part using a pink fabric. I personally love the end result. I also enjoy seeing her wearing the sun hat.

Bow pillow cover

Whilst browsing through the net, I found this sewing tutorial at www.e-tells-tales.com with clear detailed instructions on how to make a bow pillow cover.

Made a couple of these pillows and am really satisfied with the end result. Try sewing it, and I'm sure you too will be happy with the end result!

Weekend sewing project

My blog posts has been mostly on cakes and bakes. Apart from baking, I also love sewing and crafting. I always love to sew, but had not done so for years. Only in these recent years, after my dear hubby bought me a sewing machine that I started to practice on my sewing skills.

I hope to be able to share my sewing projects with you readers. I will also continue to bake and share more baking projects through this blog.

To start, my 2 boys had asked me to make them a case to keep their color pencils. I made these cases last weekend for my boys:

They had chosen the fabric themselves. The one with circles is especially made for Faiz and the other one is for Amirul.

Both were happy with the color pencil case. They had then requested for a coin purse to keep their coins and notes, which I am yet to make.

Raya 2010

Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Maaf Zahir dan Batin.

Gambar-gambar  kat bawah nih kitorang ambil pagi2 raya:

Baju raya Amirul dan Faiz tu Shas jahit sendiri, sampin pun jahit sendiri gak. Ni first time buat baju untuk diorang berdua. Selalunya, jahit seluar panjang jer untuk diorang untuk pakai kat rumah. Tapi, satu hari Amirul tanya bila mama dia nak jahit baju pulak.

So, ambil la baju lama diorang, study camne nak jahit. Search jugak kat internet untuk cari tutorial for help, last-last jumpa tutorial from my.crazyartzone.com untuk jahit baju kurung teluk belanga dan cara nak buat lubang leher untuk baju tu. Tak banyak beza sebenarnya baju kurung dengan baju melayu, tapi kena tukar sikit-sikit la cara menjahit, and kena tambah poket kat depan. I found the tutorial given to be very helpful, especially cara nak buat lubang leher. Thanks a lot Maya for sharing the tutorial.

Amirul dan Faiz suka sangat pakai baju tu, diorang pakai sampai malam dengan sampin sekali, tak bukak2 sampailah kitorang balik rumah lepas satu hari beraya.

Once again, selamat hari raya aidilfitri to all, maaf zahir dan batin.
